Djokovic Crashes Out of Monte Carlo Masters as Alcaraz Fights Back to Win

Novak Djokovic’s wait for a title goes on after early exit at the Monte Carlo Masters, while Carlos Alcaraz shines on clay.

Novak Djokovic was knocked out of the Monte Carlo Masters on Wednesday, losing his opening match 6-3, 6-4 to Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo.

The 37-year-old Serb, who is chasing his 100th ATP title, hasn’t won a tournament since claiming gold at the 2023 Paris Olympics. He came into Monte Carlo still dealing with an eye infection that first troubled him during the Miami Open in March.

Djokovic admitted before the match that he didn’t have “very high” hopes for the tournament – and it showed. He looked off the pace throughout the match, as Tabilo took full advantage to earn his second win over Djokovic, both coming on clay.

Tabilo, ranked 32 in the world, now moves into the last 16 where he’ll face either Valentin Vacherot of Monaco or Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria.

Alcaraz Makes Winning Start in Monte Carlo

Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz picked up his first career win at the Monte Carlo Masters with a strong comeback victory over Francisco Cerundolo.

The 21-year-old, ranked third in the world, lost the first set 3-6 but then stormed back to win the next two 6-0, 6-1, finishing the match in just one hour and 37 minutes.
