” Don`t abandon Golden Eaglets “- Omeruo begs
Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation and stakeholders not to abandon the 2023 Golden Eaglets set despite failing to qualify for the U-17 World Cup.
A 1-2 defeat to Burkina Faso, in the quater-final meant Nigeria crashed out of the 2023 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations without the minimum target of a World Cup ticket.
The team has been subject of criticism but CD Leganes defender himself a former Eaglet having represented Nigeria at the 2009 FIFA World Cup.
Omeruo was instrumental to Nigeria`s silver medal finish at the World Cup on home soil and has since gone on to excel in the game.
On his Instagram account on Friday May 12, Omeruo expressed sadness over the teams loss to Burkina Faso while also backing the boys to excel in their careers despite the setback.
“It was sad not to see this boys progress to the next stage and also to the World Cup.. Â so many bright talents in this team..
“I just hope they are not abandoned.. and I know for sure a lot of them will play to their highest potentials… and I hope they are encouraged in defeat as well.. !” Omeruo appealed.
The 29-year old also mentioned two players from the Coach Nduka Ugbade tutored squad that stood out in his opinion.
“What players did you think stood out for u? Comment if u watched all games… for me, number 12 (Hope Linus), number 6 (Jeremiah Olaleke)” the 60-cap Super Eagles defender stated.
