Ekiti United Deny Alleged Attack on Head Coach

Ekiti United Football Club has firmly dismissed reports claiming that its supporters attacked Head Coach Idris Bolarinwa during a training session, describing the allegation as false, malicious and deliberately misleading.

The controversy emerged after a social media post by X user Olaiya Azeez Lawal alleged unrest at the club’s training ground. However, Ekiti United says nothing of such nature happened and insists the report was fabricated without any form of verification.

According to the club, players and officials resumed training peacefully at exactly 7:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26, as preparations began for the second stanza of the Nigeria National League (NNL), scheduled to start on February 14.

“There was no incident, no protest and certainly no attack on the head coach,” the club stated, stressing that the training session was calm and orderly.

Speaking on the matter, Ekiti United Media Manager, Blessing Akinyemi, explained that the only activity outside routine training was a formal meeting between the club’s management and the players’ union.

“The engagement at the training ground was a lawful and constructive discussion with the players’ union, led by Comrade Oluwole Ogunwole, and it focused solely on players’ welfare, motivation and improved performance ahead of the second half of the season,” Akinyemi said.

The club further clarified that no supporters’ club members were present at the venue, a point it says completely undermines the claim that fans carried out any form of attack.

Ekiti United described the social media post as defamatory and dangerous, warning that such misinformation could expose individuals to harm, incite tension and damage professional reputations.

The management added that it reserves the right to seek legal action if the false report is not retracted and followed by a public apology.

“Failure to withdraw the publication and desist from further defamatory claims may leave the club with no option but to pursue legal redress,” the statement read.

Ekiti United also cautioned bloggers and social media users against sharing the report, noting that those who amplify false information could be held equally responsible.

Reaffirming its commitment to professionalism and discipline, the club urged the public to disregard the allegation and rely only on official Ekiti United communication channels for accurate information.
