Emmanuel Amunike the first ever player to wear number 17 shirt for Barcelona

Nigeria’s Emmanuel Amunike was the first ever player in Barcelona history to wear number 17 shirt for the club.

The African footballer of the year at the time wore jersey number 17 in the 1995/96 season and was on his way to making history at the club before injury cut short his career.

Presently, French star, Antoine Griezmann rocks the jersey number but before him was Emmanuel Amunike and 12 others.

Since the introduction of fixed shirt numbers in the 1995/96 season, the players who have worn the number are: Amunike, Celades (in European competition in 1997/98), Bogarde, Emmanuel Petit, Christanval, Mendieta, Van Bommel, Giovani dos Santos, Pedro, Song, Munir, Alcácer and Murillo.
