Emmanuel Ikpeme Named Acting NFF General Secretary After Sanusi’s Resignation
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed its Deputy General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, MON, as Acting General Secretary following the resignation of Dr Mohammed Sanusi.
Ikpeme is expected to officially take charge of the NFF Secretariat on Friday, August 28, 2026.
His appointment is aimed at ensuring that the day-to-day activities of the federation continue without disruption during the current period of change.
As Acting General Secretary, Ikpeme will oversee the NFF Secretariat and coordinate its administrative activities while the federation awaits further developments on the proposed Normalisation Committee expected to be announced by the National Sports Commission (NSC).
Ikpeme has many years of experience in sports administration. He previously lectured at the University of Calabar and later served as Sole Administrator of the Cross River State Sports Council.
He joined the NFF in 2007 as Deputy Secretary-General (Technical) before becoming Deputy General Secretary in March 2015.
Over the years, he has been involved in the technical and administrative management of Nigerian football.
His immediate task will be to keep the NFF Secretariat running smoothly and ensure that ongoing programmes, competitions and engagements with stakeholders continue despite the leadership changes.
Sanusi’s resignation comes at a major time for Nigerian football, with the NFF facing several important domestic and international responsibilities.
Ikpeme will remain in the acting position until a substantive arrangement is made for the leadership of the NFF Secretariat.
