Enyimba FC in trouble for security breach and misconduct
Nigerian champions, Enyimba FC are in trouble following security breaches and misconduct during the NPFL week 15 clash vs Rangers FC.
Enyimba have been charged for violating the NPFL Framework & Rules during their matchday 15 fixture against Rangers in Aba.
The charges stem from Enyimba’s failure to provide adequate security, resulting in unauthorized individuals gaining access to the match officials’ dressing room—a restricted area.
The breach of security protocols escalated further as Enyimba’s fans and officials reportedly harassed match officials in their dressing room, an action that could tarnish the reputation of the sport.
The club, managed by Finidi George, has been fined N1 million for its failure to ensure general security and prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas.
In addition to the security breach, Enyimba has incurred another N1 million fine for misconduct and the inability to ensure the proper conduct of their officials.
The consequences of these charges extend to an official of the club, Okey Nwabeke, who is now suspended from all NPFL activities for the next three match weeks due to his alleged involvement in inciting and unsporting conduct.
The defending champions now face the risk of more severe sanctions if they or any of their officials are found guilty of similar misconduct in the future. Enyimba has a 48-hour window from the date of notice to appeal the sanctions imposed by the NPFL.
The club’s management will likely assess their options and decide whether to challenge the penalties handed down by the league authorities.
