Eto’o Backs Mbappé to Be Football’s Next Big Star

Cameroon football legend Samuel Eto’o believes French forward Kylian Mbappé could become the top player in the world for years to come.

Eto’o, one of Africa’s greatest footballers, had a brilliant career playing for top clubs like Barcelona and Inter Milan. Since retiring, he has stayed involved in the sport and often shares his views on football’s future stars.

In an interview that has recently come back into the spotlight, Eto’o spoke about Mbappé’s potential to take over the spotlight from legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Mbappé is here at the right time,” Eto’o said. “Messi and Ronaldo, who have ruled football for so long, are now coming to the end of their careers. Mbappé has everything it takes to be the next big star for the next 10 or 15 years.”

Despite not winning a Ballon d’Or or the Champions League while at Paris Saint-Germain, Mbappé made a big move to Real Madrid in 2024. He is still seen as one of the world’s top players.

However, he may not win this year’s Ballon d’Or. Young Barcelona talent Lamine Yamal and PSG’s Ousmane Dembélé are also in the running and are seen as strong contenders.

Still, Eto’o’s belief in Mbappé shows just how highly he is rated by football legends. Only time will tell if the French captain can live up to those expectations
