Fuellkrug’s shot missed the net and hit Kai Flathmann, who was seated near the goalpost. The powerful shot broke Flathmann’s hand, requiring immediate medical attention and causing him to miss the game.
Fan’s Reaction and Apology
Despite the injury, Flathmann remained in good spirits. He told German newspaper Bild, “I sang along to the anthem on the stretcher! I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry! I unfortunately had to give up my dream of [watching] the opening game! But when do you ever get your hand broken by Fullkrug?”
Flathmann shared a photo from his hospital bed, watching the game on his phone. He expressed his disbelief at the situation, posting on social media with the caption, “I have no words, crazy things.”

Fuellkrug’s Apology
Niclas Fuellkrug was quick to respond, expressing his regret over the incident. According to Eurofoot on X, Fuellkrug plans to send an apology package, including a signed shirt, to Flathmann.

Despite the incident, Germany’s performance on the field was strong. They defeated Scotland and Hungary, securing a place in the knockout stages of Euro 2024. German-Nigerian player Jamal Musiala scored again in their 2-0 win over Hungary, making Germany the first team to secure a quarterfinal spot.
