Ahead of the match, Akwa United head coach Paul Offor has stressed that the team remains committed to taking the season step-by-step. Speaking to the club’s media, he said his players are fully focused and in high spirits as they prepare for their second game of the campaign.

“Our win last weekend is now behind us. We’ve shifted our attention completely to Sunday’s match, and the players are responding well,” Offor said.

“The atmosphere in camp is positive, the boys are in good shape, and everyone is eager to make the matchday squad. I’m impressed with the healthy competition within the group.

“At the moment, Abakaliki FC is our main focus. We don’t want to take anything for granted because a win on Sunday will give us the needed push for the rest of the season. We are preparing thoroughly because it’s a very important game for us.”

The coach also expressed gratitude to fans for their strong support in the opening fixture and urged them to keep backing the team.

Akwa United began their season with a comfortable 2–0 win over Solution FC, while Abakaliki FC recorded a 1–1 draw at home against Rovers FC.
