‘Fear not’ – Nigerian Ministry reassures citizens in Libya after deportation calls
The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured Nigerians in Libya of their safety after Libyan media called for the deportation of Nigerian workers.
This call followed a recent decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board, which penalised the Libya Football Federation (LFF) over security lapses during Nigeria’s recent visit for an AFCON 2025 qualifier.
Some Libyan media outlets reacted strongly to CAF’s ruling, urging authorities to take action against Nigerians in the country. However, the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded with a statement on Sunday, reassuring citizens in Libya that they can go about their activities without fear of harassment.
The Ministry stated, “As of now, Nigerians in Libya are continuing their daily lives without any issues from Libyan authorities despite the CAF decision.” The Ministry also stressed its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Nigerians abroad, saying, “The well-being of Nigerian citizens anywhere in the world is a top priority, and we will keep working to protect it at all times.”
The Ministry urged Nigerians in Libya to remain calm, assuring them that the situation remains under control.
