It felt like a self-harm, Sunday Oliseh recounts his racist experience in Germany
Fortuna Sittard’s coach Sunday Oliseh has likened what the racism he suffered while playing in Germany as a self-harm.
The former Super Eagles player and manager who is on the verge of taking the lowly Fortuna Sittard to the Eredivisie in an interview a German international broadcaster Deutsche Welle talked about the importance of Football to his life and the Bochum incident.
“Football means everything, it has given an opportunity, for myself and my family and self-fulfillment.
“I lost my temper, you get remarks from the opponent but from your teammate is like been called a nigga by your wife”.
Oliseh was enjoying a rebirth of a sort and having his most productive season in a long while before his altercation with teammate Vahid Hashemian. Bochum cut his loan short because of the incident before he was then released his parent club Dortmund.
Oliseh won 63 international caps and scored three goals for Nigeria, he featured in two FIFA Football World Cups of 1994 and 1998, also he participated in the Olympic gold medal-winning team of 1996.
Sunday Oliseh was voted Africa’s 3rd best footballer in 1998 by CAF.
