Femi Thomas to end 24-year-long playing career after Federation Cup final
Former Nigeria U-20 goalkeeper Femi Thomas, has announced his decision to retire from professional football after the 2024 President Federation Cup Final.
With a remarkable career spanning 24 years, Thomas is set to hang up his gloves after an illustrious journey across Nigeria’s top football clubs.
Thomas’s farewell appearance will be a fitting finale, as he takes to the field one last time in the President Federation Cup final. Abia Warriors will face El-Kanemi Warriors this Saturday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos. This highly anticipated match will not only mark the end of the season but also the culmination of Thomas’s storied career.
Throughout his career, Thomas has been a stalwart presence in goal for several prominent Nigerian clubs. He began his professional journey with Enyimba, one of Nigeria’s most successful teams. His career path also included stints at Kano Pillars, Rangers International, Ocean Boys, and Nasarawa United, showcasing his versatility and resilience across different teams and challenges.
Thomas’s contributions extended beyond club football. He was an integral part of the home-based Super Eagles squad at the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda. Additionally, he represented Nigeria at the U-20 level, highlighting his early promise and dedication to the sport.
