Flamingos Face Brazil in Crucial U-17 World Cup Semi-Final

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, will face Brazil on Wednesday in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

The encounter presents Nigeria with an opportunity to reach the final of the competition for the first time in their history.

The Flamingos booked their place in the last four after defeating Venezuela 1-0 in the quarter-finals, thanks to an 89th-minute penalty converted by captain Azeezat Oduntan.

Nigeria had earlier beaten Mexico 2-1 in the Round of 16 to continue their impressive run in the competition.

The team also recorded a 3-1 victory over defending champions North Korea in the group stage, showing their ability to compete against some of the best teams in the tournament.

However, their campaign started with a 2-1 defeat to Poland before they recovered with a 2-0 win over Puerto Rico.

Head coach Akeem Busari and his players will now face a tough test against Brazil, who booked their semi-final place with a 2-1 comeback victory over China.

Brazil reached the knockout stage unbeaten and defeated Poland on penalties after a 3-3 draw in the Round of 16.

Their quarter-final victory over China came through Helena, who scored twice, including the winning goal in the 87th minute.

Wednesday’s meeting will be another opportunity for Nigeria to make history, having previously reached the semi-finals in 2022, when they won the bronze medal in India.

Both teams will be seeking their first title in the competition, making the encounter an important battle for a place in the final.

The Flamingos will be hoping to maintain their momentum and secure a historic victory against the South Americans.
