Heartland FC Celebrate Former Captain Anyanwu’s Retirement, Honour Nkwo for 50 Appearances

Heartland FC celebrated two important moments in the club’s history on Sunday as former captain Nnaemeka Anyanwu officially retired from active football, while Christian Nkwo was honoured for reaching 50 appearances for the club.
The recognition took place after Heartland’s 2-2 draw against Crown FC in their opening fixture of the 2026/27 Nigeria National League (NNL) season in Owerri.
Anyanwu was celebrated for his years of service to Heartland FC, Enyimba, Abia Warriors and other clubs outside Nigeria.
Announcing his retirement, Heartland described the former skipper’s contribution to the club as meritorious and congratulated him on the next chapter of his life.
In another presentation, Christian Nkwo received recognition for making 50 appearances in Heartland colours.
The club celebrated the milestone with the message, “Half a century fighting for the badge”, congratulating the player on reaching the landmark.
The celebrations provided a special moment for the club and its supporters despite the disappointing result against Crown FC.
Heartland had taken a 2-0 first-half lead through Ekene Osigwe and Jonathan Osondu’s penalty but conceded twice early in the second half as Osas Kevin and Mustapha Olamilekan secured a 2-2 draw for Crown FC.
While the NNL campaign has just begun, the club used the occasion to recognise the contributions of its former captain and celebrate the commitment of one of its current players.
