Gift Orban caps impressive month with double award
Nigerian hotshot picks up awards for Gent in debut month
Nigerian forward Gift Orban has won two awards with KAA Gent in the month of February after his explosive start to life at the Belgian club. The 20-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant start to life in Belgium and has been duly rewarded.
Orban moved from Norwegian second division side Stabaek in January to Gent as the Belgian side sought increased firepower. Even they could not have predicted how the forward has hit the ground running. He scored 19 goals in 24 appearances for Stabaek and helped the side to secure promotion in his only season.
His first goal for the club was a first-time acrobatic effort in their win over KVC Westerlo, a goal for which he earned the club’s Goal of the Month award. He scored another brilliant strike in the same match before going on to score three more, including twice in the UEFA Europa Conference League against Qarabag and Istanbul Basaksehir.
For doing so well at the club and playing like a veteran, Gift Orban was also named as the side’s Player of the Month ahead of their last match against Anderlecht, a game in which he scored another brilliant winner.
Orban has now scored five goals in only seven appearances since joining the Belgian outfit. His goals have put the side within one point of the league’s Championship Playoffs and into the Round of 16 of the Conference League.
