‘Good Manger’ – Nathan Tella hails Erik Ten Hag
Super Eagles and Bayer Leverkusen forward Nathan Tella has defended Erik Ten Hag after the Dutch manager faced criticism for his time at Manchester United.
Ten Hag won both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup during his spell at Old Trafford. However, poor performances in the Premier League and Champions League led to him losing his job. He was replaced by Ruben Amorim just before Christmas.
Now, with Xabi Alonso moving to Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen have handed Ten Hag a two-year contract, and Tella is excited to work under the former Ajax coach.
“I’m really looking forward to playing under him,” Tella told Flashscore. “I think he’s a very good manager. People only talk about what happened at Manchester United, but they forget he won two trophies there and did great things at Ajax.
“Getting the United job from Ajax shows he’s a top coach. Even though things didn’t go how some people wanted, him getting the job at Leverkusen proves he’s still a quality manager.
“I haven’t met him yet. I’ve only seen the pictures of him signing, and it’s already given me motivation to work hard.
“It’s another big manager to impress, another chance to grow as a player. I’m really looking forward to the challenge.”
Tella, who won the Bundesliga title with Leverkusen last season, is hoping to continue developing under Ten Hag’s leadership.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that Victor Boniface, another Nigerian star at Leverkusen, may not be part of Ten Hag’s plans for the upcoming season.
