Granit Xhaka lauds Leverkusen’s Nigerian duo for Bundesliga triumph

Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka has showered accolades on Nigerian duo, Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella for their instrumental roles in Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga victory.

Xhaka, who holds Switzerland’s appearance record, joined Leverkusen from Arsenal last summer and quickly became a linchpin in Xabi Alonso’s midfield setup.

The 31-year-old maestro has been a constant presence on the pitch, featuring in all 29 Bundesliga matches this season and netting two crucial goals.

In a recent interview, Xhaka reminisced about his experiences in Nigeria, including winning the U-17 World Cup against them. He acknowledged the significance of global support and thanked fans for their backing.

In a heartfelt tribute, Xhaka commended Boniface and Tella for their positive demeanor and immense contributions both on and off the field. He praised the duo’s infectious positivity and highlighted the quality they bring to the team, fostering a cohesive atmosphere within the club.

“It’s difficult to find the right words but I had a very good experience in Nigeria, won the U-17 World Cup there, defeating them in the final. Jokes aside, I say thanks for the support, it is always good to have worldwide support and we gave our best for the season,” the versatile midfielder is quoted by Soccernet.

“For Boni and Nathan, they’re very good, very positive, always with a smile on their faces. With them, we have a lot of quality in the team, on and off the pitch, and it’s so nice to be a part of them and the team.”

While Leverkusen clinched their maiden Bundesliga title, Xhaka’s former club Arsenal suffered a setback, falling to Aston Villa. Despite his history with Arsenal, Xhaka expressed his well wishes for the team’s success in the Premier League title race, underscoring his continued support for his former teammates and the club.

Looking ahead, Xhaka expressed optimism about Leverkusen’s prospects in the DFB Pokal and UEFA Europa League, stressing the team’s ambition to secure further silverware. He acknowledged the challenges posed by upcoming fixtures but remained determined to seize every opportunity for glory.

As Leverkusen continues its undefeated streak, Xhaka’s sentiments reflect the team’s unity and determination to conquer new heights in the ongoing season.
