“I would dread facing Iwobi in midfield”, Lampard admits
Nigerian midfielder enjoying terrific run of form
Everton manager Frank Lampard revealed his admiration for hardworking midfielder Alex Iwobi in the aftermath of his side’s Premier League win over Southampton. The former Chelsea manager was vocal in his praise of the Nigerian midfield maestro.
Iwobi has seen his career at Everton turned around since the appointment of Lampard as the club’s manager. The 26-year-old former Arsenal starlet has reinvented himself from an unproductive winger to a brilliant midfielder under the watch of Lampard, one of the greatest ever midfielders in Premier League history.
Iwobi assisted his side’s winner in their 2-1 win at St Mary’s Stadium at the weekend. The Nigerian midfielder has assisted four of his side’s last six goals this season from his new midfield position. After the match, Lampard praised the midfield ace for his amazing energy and quality on the ball.
“He is playing with incredible consistency.” Lampard further added that “He did a lot for us last season, played some games at No 8 and I really liked him. It suited his talent, in terms of strength and quality of pass”
“He has so many talents, I would not like to have played against him as a midfield player. He can run and run.”
Iwobi was nominated for the Premier League’s Player of the Month award, which was won by Marcus Rashford, in September. The Nigerian midfielder has been one of the best in the Premier League in his position this season, and will be looking to keep up his good form against Manchester United at the weekend.
