“I’m Scared a Little Bit” — Mirra Andreeva opens up after reaching US Open Fourth Round
Mirra Andreeva reached the US Open fourth round for the first time after beating Nikola Bartunkova 6-2, 7-6(5) on Saturday.
The fifth seed has now reached the fourth round at all four Grand Slam tournaments, doing so for the ninth time in her young career. The win was also her 43rd of the 2026 season.
After the match, Andreeva was asked if anything still makes her nervous despite her confidence on court.
“Today before the match my coach knows I was very intimidated to make a double fault. Can you imagine? I mean, I feel like every time I play a match I’m scared a little bit of something that might happen.”
She explained that those thoughts can stop her from playing freely, but she has been working on managing them.
“Those thoughts are the ones that actually don’t let you play free. I’ve been working on it a lot, fighting back to really kind of talk over those negative thoughts and doubtful thoughts that come into my head.”
Andreeva will now look to continue her run in New York as she moves into the second week of the tournament.
