Innocent Bonke praised for his role in Malmo’s 1-0 loss to Chelsea

Innocent Bonke has been praised for his role in Malmo’s 1-0 home loss to Chelsea in a Champions League game on Tuesday.

The Nigerian midfielder was every at the Eleda Stadion in front of the 19,000 home fans.

Hakim Ziyech second half goal following an individual brilliance from Callum Hudson-Odoi settled the clash.

But it was Innocent Bonke’s effort that helped reduced the scoreline to just one goal.

The Nigerian covered every single blade of grass as Malmo reduced the European champions to just one goal.

Innocent Bonke who was not named in Gernot Rohr’s 24-man squad for the qualifying games against Liberia and Cape Verde shone like million stars.

He disrupted the rhythm of the European champions with his timely tackles, interceptions and blocks.

It was like watching Chelsea’s midfielder Ngolo Kante in action.

In fact, the commentators recognised his efforts and kept mentioning the work he has done in the game preventing Chelsea from playing from the midfield as they would.

With 0 points from 4 games, Bonke and Malmo teammates can still make it into Europa League.

They have games against table-topper Juventus and Zenit Peterborough and with favourable results in the game they will make it to the Europa League.
