Inter Miami Set Sights on MLS Playoffs After Big Win Over Montreal
Inter Miami have returned to Major League Soccer with a strong message, beating Montreal Impact 4-1 after their impressive run at the Club World Cup.
The team made history by becoming the first MLS side to defeat a European club, winning 2-1 against Porto. Although they were later knocked out by UEFA Champions League winners PSG, their focus has now shifted back to domestic success.
Speaking after the big win over Montreal, head coach Javier Mascherano shared the team’s goal for the season.
“Our motivation now is to compete in our league and achieve what this club has been working towards for years,” said Mascherano. “We want to qualify for the playoffs, earn home advantage, and then take things from there when the time comes.”
Inter Miami, led by Lionel Messi, currently have four games in hand due to their Club World Cup schedule. With six more matches to play this month, Mascherano confirmed he’ll need to rotate the squad to manage the workload.
“We’ve got lots of matches ahead and many already behind us. We’ll need every player to contribute,” he explained. “I don’t like to make too many changes at once, so we’ll try to rotate carefully.”
As the team pushes for a strong finish in the MLS, fans can expect some players – including Messi – to be rested at times to keep the squad fresh for the playoff race.
