‘ It was not easy ‘ – Kwara United youngster Yahaya Ibrahim reflects on facing Ahmed Musa
Kwara United youngster Yahaya Ibrahim has shared his experience of facing Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa during the NPFL match between Kwara United and Kano Pillars on Sunday, 9th March 2025.
Kwara United won the match 2-0, with Ibrahim providing the assist for the second goal. This result means Kwara United have earned four points against Kano Pillars this season, having played a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
Ibrahim, who joined Kwara United from Blessed Stars Academy, Uyo, has been one of the standout players of the 2024/2025 NPFL season. Despite being in his debut season, he has already registered five assists, playing in defense for the team and earning call-up to the home-based Eagles camp ahead of the CHAN qualifiers in 2024.
After the match, Ibrahim spoke about what it was like to face Musa, who has had a successful career in top European leagues and with the Nigerian national team. In an exclusive interview with SportsRations’ Nsikakabasi Akpan, Ibrahim said: “It was not easy playing against a great player like Ahmed Musa. He is someone who has played in top leagues and done great things with the Super Eagles. When I heard he was part of the Kano Pillars team, I knew the match would be tough. I had to double my efforts to make sure he didn’t score, while also trying to assist or score for my team.”
Yahaya Ibrahim continued, “During the match, Musa and I were chatting. I love his energy and the way he encourages younger players. He advised me to keep going and push more.”
Meanwhile, Ahmed Musa has been in fine form for Kano Pillars this season and was recently named in the Super Eagles’ provisional squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Rwanda later this month.
