‘They played for the team’ – Jay-Jay Okocha Hails PSG After Historic Champions League Win

PSG legend Jay-Jay Okocha has praised his former club after they claimed a stunning 5–0 win over Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday night.

The Nigerian football great, who played for PSG from 1998 to 2002, spoke to TNT Sports shortly after the final whistle and shared his joy at seeing the club lift the famous trophy for the first time in their history.

“It’s amazing,” Okocha said. “The way they did it – they made it look so easy. They had a good plan and it worked perfectly. They really deserved it.”

Okocha admitted he wasn’t expecting such a one-sided result.

“I predicted 2–1, but who cares? What matters is they won. It’s the first time in the club’s history, and I think it’s a great moment for football too.”

The former Super Eagles captain was especially impressed by PSG’s attacking players.

“That was the key difference. They used their individual skills to help the team. They kept the ball well, unsettled Inter, and always looked like they could create something.”

When asked how he would have fit into today’s fast-paced PSG attack, Okocha laughed and replied:

“I wouldn’t have had a choice! When you play with great players, they make you look good too.”

He added that the players’ strong work ethic made a big impact.

“They worked really hard. But when things are going well, you don’t mind putting in extra effort for the team. That’s exactly what they did.”

Okocha also praised the influence of PSG’s manager, highlighting how the team played as one.

“The coach made them understand that football is a team game. No matter how talented you are, if you don’t play for the team, you won’t win anything. And they proved that tonight.”

Okocha ended the interview by joining the celebrations on the pitch, clearly proud to witness PSG’s dream come true.
