John Utaka Questions How Ahmed Musa’s Sudden Exit Was Handled

Former Super Eagles striker John Utaka has spoken about the confusion surrounding Ahmed Musa’s quick exit from the Nigerian national team camp in London.

Musa played in Nigeria’s 2 to 1 win over Ghana in the Unity Cup but then left the team shortly after. At first, it was said he left for personal reasons. Later, fans were surprised to learn that he had returned to Kano to marry a new wife named Asmau. This is his fourth marriage.

Speaking on Brila FM, Utaka raised concerns about how the situation was managed. He said there should have been more clear communication, especially because playing for the national team is a serious responsibility.

“We do not know what was agreed before Musa joined the camp. It is a duty to the country. Things should be done in the right way,” Utaka said.

It is possible that the wedding was planned before the Unity Cup match against Jamaica was scheduled, which may have caused a clash that Musa could not avoid. The player had also been hoping to return to the team after a long break.

Musa, who is 31, made his first appearance for Nigeria since the Africa Cup of Nations in 2023. He came on as a substitute in the second half of the match against Ghana. But by leaving the camp, he missed the final Unity Cup game against Jamaica.

Some fans have defended him, saying other players have missed games for less serious reasons. Still, Utaka believes the way it was handled could have been better.
