Jorginho explains Arteta’s influence on his decision to join Arsenal

“All I can promise is that I’m going to give my all to represent this club”

Jorge Luiz Frello Filho Cavaliere OMRI, popularly known as Jorginho has detailed the influence of Mikel Arteta on his decision to join Arsenal from Chelsea, reports Sportsration.

The Italian who was Chelsea’s vice-captain left the Blue side of London for the Red side on deadline day for a fee of £10m with £2m as add-ons.

With just six months left in his contract and instead of leaving for free in the summer, Chelsea cashed on Jorginho with Arsenal as his destination.

For Arsenal, they needed a cover for injured Thomas Partey, and experienced Jorginho fits the bill for a short-term solution.

Jorginho during his unveiling has revealed that Mikel Aretea tried to sign him a few times, talking about the Spaniard’s time at City as assistant to Pep Guardiola.

“He was a big influence because I know that he tried a few times to get me before and it didn’t happen due to other reasons, not because of my wishes. So of course, he had a big influence.”

The 31-year-old who has won the Champions League, EUROPA Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup could add the league title to his cabinet goes well at Arsenal.

And Italian midfielder said he is relishing this challenge.

“I’m very excited for this new challenge, and I just can’t wait to be on the pitch to be honest! Everything has happened so fast. I was a bit surprised, but I took the opportunity of this amazing challenge.

“All I can promise is that I’m going to give my all to represent this club”.

On his part, Arteta only had the positives to say about Jorginho.

“Jorginho is a midfield player with intelligence, deep leadership skills and a huge amount of Premier League and international experience”.
