Juventus considering Paul Pogba’s exit despite successful appeal of doping ban

Former Manchester United star Paul Pogba could soon be leaving Juventus, despite successfully reducing his doping ban, making him eligible to return in March 2025.

The French midfielder initially faced a four-year suspension after testing positive for testosterone in August 2023 but had the ban shortened to 18 months on appeal.

However, reports from Italy suggest that Juventus is preparing to part ways with Pogba due to several factors, including his high salary and the club’s evolving midfield. Pogba’s contract, which earns him €10 million per season, is a significant financial burden for Juventus. Since his suspension, the 30-year-old has been earning a reduced wage of €2,000 per month, but his full salary will resume upon his return.

Beyond financial considerations, Pogba’s role in Juventus’ current setup has become unclear. The club has revamped its midfield during his absence, adding €50 million signing Teun Koopmeiners and integrating emerging talents like Kenan Yildiz. Established players such as Manuel Locatelli, Nicolo Fagioli, and Weston McKennie have also performed well, leaving limited room for Pogba’s return.

Reports from Calciomercato.com indicate that Juventus is exploring a mutual termination of Pogba’s contract. This move would allow the club to free up resources for other squad investments while giving Pogba the chance to revive his career, possibly in Major League Soccer (MLS), where several clubs are reportedly interested in signing him. A fresh start could also boost Pogba’s chances of making France’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
