Kelechi Nwakali in trouble as Chaves initiate disciplinary action
Nigerian midfielder, Kelechi Nwakali is in trouble following disciplinary charges raised against him by Portuguese club, CD Chaves.
GD Chaves faced a double blow recently – not only did they suffer a loss confirming their relegation from Liga Portugal Betclic, but they also found themselves grappling with off-field issues involving one of their players, Kelechi Nwakali.
During the defeat against FC Famalicão, Nwakali allegedly used his phone while sitting on the substitute’s bench. This action did not sit well with the club’s management, who have now initiated disciplinary proceedings against him.
The defeat itself was a bitter moment for Chaves, as it sealed their fate of dropping down to the Segunda Liga. Gustavo Sá’s last-minute goal secured the win for Famalicão, adding to Chaves’ woes.
Nwakali’s behavior has only exacerbated the situation for the club. This isn’t the first time he’s been in hot water for disciplinary issues. In 2022, he parted ways with his former club, SD Huesca, under similar circumstances, although the exact reasons were not disclosed.
Despite making appearances in 19 league games and representing Nigeria in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, Nwakali’s future with Chaves is now uncertain.
Kelechi Nwakali’s actions have put his position in jeopardy, and whether he stays with the club or seeks opportunities elsewhere depends on the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings and his ability to show the necessary commitment and focus, as highlighted by his previous club coach.
