Kyle Larson calls for more respect for American Drivers

Kyle Larson has spoken about the lack of recognition for American drivers, saying they are often overlooked compared to their European counterparts.

Speaking on a podcast, Larson said:

“Americans in general don’t get the respect that they deserve from Europeans. In any form, I feel like, of sport. But yeah, in racing especially too.”

He pointed to the global influence of Formula One as a key reason for that perception.

“I mean, Formula One is huge, right? It’s by far the biggest, most-watched motorsport… They’re not paying attention to what we’re doing over here (in the U.S.).”

Larson added that this has created a belief that Formula One drivers are on a different level.

“I think that makes it to where they don’t think there can ever be another driver as good as the worst Formula One drivers.”

He believes that view does not reflect the depth of talent in American racing, where drivers compete across multiple formats including NASCAR, IndyCar and dirt racing.

“Hopefully, we’ll get to a point where NASCAR and American auto racing get the respect it deserves.”
