Maintenance culture a big problem in Nigeria sport, says CUS Cagliari’s Ovo

Nigeria’s Ogheneovo Nova Umukoro who recently joined Italy Seria B side CUS Cagliari Hockey club from Yobe Desert Rollers has said that maintenance culture is a big problem facing Nigeria sport.

The former Ondo State Flickers’ player in an exclusive chat with also slammed Nigeria’s maintenance culture stating the pitches in Nigeria are in bad shape because of our poor maintenance culture.


“Yes there is a difference. Nigeria hockey is more energetic and much of skills while Italy is more of basics.”
“Yes the pitches in Nigeria is the same as the ones in Italy is the same, but our problem in Nigeria is maintenance culture which we are lacking, but over here they have maintenance culture that’s why their pitches are still functioning well,” he said.
