Las Vegas Grand Prix: Max Verstappen extends record with impressive 18th win

Red Bull secure record 20th win of the season

Formula One champion Max Verstappen continued his dominance of the 2023 season with an impressive win in the Las Vegas Grand Prix, his 18th of the season. The win by the Red Bull Racing driver also saw the Red Bull team claim a record 20th win of the season.

The 2023 Formula One season was decided weeks ago, but Verstappen has not rested on his laurels since. The Red Bull driver set a record for most wins in a season and has further extended the record in the first-ever Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc claimed pole position in the qualifying event on Saturday but lost the lead in the very first lap to Verstappen.

Leclerc reclaimed the lead after 16 laps, but lost it to another Red Bull driver Sergio Perez in the 33rd lap before regaining it three laps later. Verstappen took the lead in the race in the 37th lap and held onto the lead until the end of the race, with Leclerc passing Perez late to finish second.

Sergio Perez finished third in the Las Vegas Grand Prix to secure a second place finish in the Championship for 2023. Esteban Ocon finished in fourth place, Lance Stroll was fifth, Carlos Sainz was sixth, Lewis Hamilton finished seventh and George Russell was eighth.

Fernando Alonso finished in ninth place and Oscar Piastri was tenth in the penultimate race of the season.

Red Bull already claimed the Constructors Championship, and have now set a new record for wins in a season.
