LeBron James speaks about retirement

LeBron James, the NBA’s oldest active player, continues to defy age with his stellar performances on the court despite acknowledging he will retire one day.

After dropping 40 points, including a personal record-breaking nine three-pointers, in the Los Angeles Lakers’ recent victory over the Brooklyn Nets, it’s evident that James still has plenty of gas in the tank.

However, despite his outstanding display, the basketball icon acknowledges the reality of his age and the inevitable approach of retirement. In a post-game interview with Jovan Buha of The Athletic, James candidly admitted that he’s aware he’s in the twilight of his NBA career, hinting that retirement is not far off.

“Not very long. … I’m not gonna play another 21 years, that’s for damn sure. But not very long. I don’t know when that door will close as far as when I’ll retire. But I don’t have much time left,” LeBron James stated.

While LeBron James remains uncertain about the exact timing of his retirement, he has been vocal about one last goal he wants to achieve before hanging up his jersey: playing alongside his eldest son, Bronny James. Bronny, who recently began his NCAA career at the University of Southern California, faced a setback when he suffered a life-threatening cardiac arrest over the summer.

LeBron’s desire to share the court with Bronny before retiring may extend his career, and his future with the Los Angeles Lakers could hinge on whether he opts to pick up his player option for the next season. As James continues to excel on the court, fans eagerly await to see if he can achieve his final career milestone while still performing at an elite level.
