Kelechi Iheanacho delivered another goalscoring cameo for Leicester City in a 2-0 win at the King Power Stadium over French outfit Stade Rennais in their UEFA Europa Conference League Round of 16 first leg.
After an excellent first-half strike from Marc Albrighton had opened the scoring for Leicester City, Kelechi Iheanacho put the game to bed in the 93rd minute after receiving a pass from Englishman Albrighton, with a brilliantly curled effort into the bottom corner of Alfred Gomis’ goal.
The goal from Kelechi Iheanacho sparked a series of reactions from Leicester City faithful on twitter.
Kelechi Iheanacho has contributed six goals and nine assists for Leicester City in 1322 minutes of football, averaging a goal contribution every 88 minutes on the pitch. The Super Eagles star is one of the best finishers in the Foxes team at present.
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has preferred to play Zambian striker Patson Daka to Kelechi Iheanacho, with the former RB Salzburg man having already played 1513 minutes of football for the Foxes this season. This is despite Iheanacho emerging as their top scorer last season.
The Super Eagles star also contributed an assist in their playoff win over Danish side Randers en route to this stage.
In an interview after the match, Iheanacho stated that he was willing to continue working and helping the team achieve its goals after the injury to club legend Jamie Vardy.
“Jamie is out at the moment, and we will always miss him. He’s such an important man for the team.” “But I’m here, Patson is here, we will always do our best to help the team moving forward.”
