Lewandowski nets hattrick as Bayern Munich demolish Borussia Monchengladbach

Confirms 9th successive Bundesliga title

Bayern Munich were confirmed as the 2020/21 German Bundesliga champions following a crushing 6-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach saw them claim an unassailable 10 point lead over second-placed RB Leipzig who lost 3-2 to Borussia Dortmund with only two games left in the Bundesliga season.

Talismanic striker Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring for the perennial champions before Thomas Muller added a second. Lewandowski scored once more to make it three before Kingsley Coman scored a fourth. Lewandowski completed his hattrick from the penalty spot and Leroy Sane put the game to bed in the 86th minute. Bayern Munich finished the game with 10 men after teenage defender Tanguy Nianzou was sent off for a last man challenge on Monchengladbach striker, Breel Embolo just 5 minutes after his introduction off the bench.

Polish goal machine, Lewandowski has now scored 46 goals in just 38 matches across all competition for Bayern Munich this season. The result ensured that Bayern Munich have now won 9 consecutive Bundesliga titles, and manager Hansi Flick will be leaving the club on a high note at the conclusion of the season.
