Libya 2 Nigeria 0: Olympic Eagles have all to play for in Asaba after U23AFCONQ defeat in Tunisia

A goal either half condemned the Nigeria U-23 team to a 2-0 loss to Libya at the Ben Guerdane Stadium in Tunisia in the first leg of their AFCON U-23 qualifiers on Wednesday.

The star-studded Nigerian team must overturn their goal deficit next Monday when they host Libya at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.

Libya took the lead in the 6th minute very early into the game. Nigeria led by Kelechi Nwakali in the midfield tried to rally back but didn’t really produce anything spectacular in the final third.

The team was reduced to 10 when Adamu Abubakar was given a straight red card for handling the ball outside his area.

Flying Eagles goalkeeper Olawale Oremade was brought on to replace Adamu in goal while Dennis Bonaventure was taken off.

The Olympics Eagles were the better side in the opening minutes of the second half but failed to make anything from their midfield play.

Libya doubled their lead through a sleek counter-attack move in the 68th minute.

The hosts held on to their lead and Nigeria must do everything to overturn a difficult 2-0 deficit.
