Manchester United Set Up All-English Europa League Final Clash with Tottenham
The stage is set for a mouth-watering all-English Europa League final as Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur booked their places in the competition’s showpiece on Thursday night.
United stormed into the final in style with a commanding 4-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao at Old Trafford, completing a 7-1 aggregate demolition. Tottenham, meanwhile, cruised to a 2-0 second-leg win away to Bodo/Glimt, securing a 5-1 aggregate triumph.
Both clubs will now face off for the trophy in Bilbao later this month, with European glory offering salvation after underwhelming domestic campaigns.
Mount’s Magic Sends United to the Final
Mason Mount delivered a standout performance, scoring twice — including an outrageous 50-yard strike after a poor clearance from Bilbao’s goalkeeper. His stunning long-range goal capped off a resounding night for the Red Devils, who also saw Casemiro and Rasmus Højlund get on the scoresheet in front of a jubilant home crowd.
Mount’s opener early in the second half gave United breathing room, before Casemiro’s looping header and Højlund’s close-range finish sealed the deal. Mount then put the icing on the cake with his audacious effort from distance.
Tottenham Cruise Past Bodo/Glimt
Over in Norway, Pedro Porro scored a remarkable goal directly from a cross to seal Tottenham’s progression. His curling ball into the box evaded everyone and nestled into the net via the post, sending Ange Postecoglou’s men into their first European final since 2019.
Spurs had already done most of the hard work in the first leg at home and never looked troubled in the return fixture, controlling the game from start to finish.
All Eyes on Bilbao
The Europa League final now promises a thrilling encounter between two of England’s biggest clubs, both desperate to end the season with silverware. The match in Bilbao will be United’s chance to win a second Europa League title, while Tottenham will be hunting their first major European trophy since 1984.
With Chelsea also reaching the UEFA Conference League final after a 1-0 win over Djurgarden (5-1 on aggregate), it was a statement night for Premier League clubs on the continent.
