Melo certain Durant is not worried about free agency

The biggest question surrounding next year’s crop of NBA free agents is where Kevin Durant will end up but New York Knicks opponent Carmelo Anthony believes he will remain with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Durant – the 2014 MVP – is eligible to become a free agent next year, with the Thunder able to offer a max contract exceeding the value of any other team.

A return home to Washington to play for the Wizards has been mooted but Anthony seems to think Durant will end up right back in Oklahoma City when all is said and done.

“Come on man, he just got into the [Oklahoma] Hall of Fame,” Anthony said on Friday.

“He’s a big part of Oklahoma. Not just from a basketball standpoint but from an economic standpoint and a business standpoint. He’s a major part of what goes on out here.”

Anthony knows a thing or two about being a highly-sought after free agent.

The 30-year-old forward flirted with the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks before re-signing with the Knicks for more money before the 2014-15 season.

Which is why Anthony believes he can relate to Durant.

“As much as we say we try not to think about it and not worry about it there comes a time when you do have to think about those things,” Anthony added.

“Maybe not when we come to the arena but when you’re home you think about it. For him I think it’s more about trying to get health.

“I know he’s not worried about free agency.”
