Moffi bags assist in French Ligue One season opener

Nigerian striker Terem Moffi bagged an assist for Larbode to score the first goal of the 2023/2024 French Ligue One season on Friday August 11.

That goal put OGC Nice in front in the opening game of the Ligue One season vs Lille OSC at the Allianz Riveira on Friday night.

Moffi who joined Nice on a permanent basis on July 1 after the initial loan spell from FC Lorient for the second half of the 2022/2023 season.

The Nigerian International has remained a significant figure at OGC Nice who headed into 2023-24 season with a new manager at the helm.

Francesco Fariolli replaced caretaker boss Didier Digard in June and so took charge of his first league game vs visiting Lille OSC on Friday.

Fariolli named Moffi in his starting XI and the forward set-up 29-year old Gaetan Laborde to fire Nice in front and destined for the win before Lille OSC struck a late equalizer.

Baforde Diakite scored a late equalizer to deny Moffi and Nice a win to start the new season as it finished 1-1.

A draw was probably a fair result for a game low on quality but high on entertainment, particularly in the first half.

Laborde, Khephren Thuram , Terem Moffi and other OGC Nice attacking players will rue first half missed chances after Lille clawed back late-on to force a share of the spoils.

Moffi will next travel to face his former team FC Lorient on matchday two of the 2023/2024 French Ligue One season.

The Super Eagle will hope to open his goal account for the season, having enjoyed a healthy return of 21-goals in 38 appearances in all competitions in the 2022/2023 season.

A remarkable season it was for the striker whose goal against Swiss Club FC Basel was named was named as the best for the season in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
