Murray and Nadal ease through in Beijing

Andy Murray promised there is more to come from him after booking his place in the second round of the China Open with a 6-2 7-5 victory over Andreas Seppi on Tuesday.

The top seed registered his eighth consecutive win against the Italian in Beijing, setting up a second-round clash with Andrey Kuznetsov – a 6-1 6-4 victor over fellow Russian Konstantin Kravchuk.

Murray struggled with a shoulder problem in August but believes he is returning to his best with every match.

“I thought I did okay considering I hadn’t played much the past couple of weeks,” he said.

“I think I can do better. But there was some good stuff in there. With each match, I’ll play better hopefully.

“No injuries. Felt fine. Just need matches now.”

Last year’s runner-up and second seed Rafael Nadal is also safely through following a routine 6-1 6-1 win against Paolo Lorenzi.

“Today I think I played a very solid match, playing very aggressive with my forehand,” Nadal commented.

“I only played one not so good game. That was at 3-1 of the first set. But for the rest I played a very good match. I’m very happy.”

It was not plain sailing for all seeds in Beijing, though, with Dominic Thiem beaten 4-6 6-1 6-3 by Alexander Zverev.

Milos Raonic triumphed 6-4 7-6 (7-1) and there were wins for Jack Sock and Fabio Fognini over Zhang Ze and Viktor Troicki respectively.
