Naomi Osaka has reached the third round of the US Open after beating Katerina Siniakova 6-2, 5-7, 6-1.

Osaka looked in control after taking the opening set and holding a point for 5-2 in the second, but Siniakova fought back to force a deciding set. The four-time Grand Slam champion regrouped and dominated the third to seal the win.

Osaka has now reached the third round or better at every Grand Slam this year. She may not have produced her best tennis yet in New York, but she has now won four Grand Slam titles, including two US Open crowns, and has repeatedly raised her level when the occasion demands it.

After the victory, Osaka spoke about the special feeling of playing on Arthur Ashe Stadium:

“I just told myself that it’s an honor to play on this court. I don’t know how many… I don’t know, I’m playing two matches back to back on this court. It’s a big honor for me. I just wanna keep playing in front of you guys if possible. Just try to fight as best as I can.”

Asked what makes the court and New York crowd bring out her best, Osaka said:

“I think the energy. You guys are very lively. I’ve also had the experience of growing up here and playing on this court many times. Whenever I step out here it’s just really fun.”
