Napoli star Jorginho emerges as top Arsenal target: He could join in January

ARSENAL are interested in signing Napoli star Jorginho – according to reports out of Italy.

According to Tuttomercato the Gunners are hoping to recruit Jorginho next summer, but are monitoring him in the meantime.

An incredible 10 wins from 11 games mean Napoli are the shock early Serie A leaders with Dries Mertens’ form stealing the headlines.

But Italian international Jorginho has been the unsung hero of Maurizio Sarri’s side.

The north London outfit could use more quality in midfield, to help out Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey while Santi Cazorla has spent much of the past two years injured and will be 33 in December.

Quality is something Jorginho could provide in abundance, and he would be a good fit at the Emirates Stadium.

The 25-year-old is a holding midfielder who uses his exemplary distribution to exert control and influence in the centre of the park, and he dictates the play for his side.

When asked about his most difficult opponent, Roma’s Belgian star Radja Nainggolan replied: “I must name Jorginho, because it is very difficult to mark him out of action.

“He distributes the ball very quickly, and you get tired running after it. It takes a lot of energy to prevent him from executing his plan.”

Napoli’s game virtually flows through Jorginho, and he is able to set the tempo and control everything.

No player in Europe has completed more passes than him in 2017.

One of the greatest Italian coaches ever, Giovanni Trappatoni, spotted the midfielder’s potential back in 2013 when he played for Verona.

“He has brilliant feet, can play in various positions on the pitch and is very smart,” Trapattoni said
