NBA Mourns the passing of Doug Moe
The NBA is mourning the passing of Doug Moe, a pioneering coach whose ideas and influence helped shape the modern game.
Moe was one of the earliest advocates of a fast, wide open style of basketball, long before pace and space became league wide priorities.
As head coach, he won more than 600 games across stints with the Denver Nuggets, San Antonio Spurs, and Philadelphia 76ers, earning NBA Coach of the Year honors along the way.
In recognition of his lasting impact on the profession, Moe later received the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award, a testament to both his innovation and influence on generations of coaches.
Before his coaching career, Moe was also a standout player, earning ABA All-Star honors and winning an ABA championship.
Doug Moe leaves behind a legacy defined by creativity, conviction, and a vision that helped move the game forward. The NBA extends its condolences to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
