Ndidi, Iheanacho return to Premier League with Leicester City
Following their disappointing relegation last season, Nigerian stars, Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho have conquered the English Championship to take Leicester City back to the Premier League.
In what has been a great season for the Foxes, Leicester City’s promotion was confirmed following Leeds United’s 4-0 loss to QPR on Friday, April 26, 2024.
Last season, Leicester City faced relegation from the Premier League after a heartbreaking final day, finishing 18th with 34 points in 38 games. Following their relegation, they witnessed the departure of key players like Harvey Barnes, Timothy Castagne, James Maddison, and Youri Tielemans but Super Eagles stars, Wilfred Ndidi and Iheanacho were among the established names that kept faith with the former Premier League champions.
However, under the leadership of Enzo Maresca and with new signings such as Stephy Mavididi, Issahaku Fatawu, and Harry Winks, the team has shown significant improvement and dominance in the Championship.
Entering the game between Leeds United and QPR, Leicester City had amassed 94 points and required only a victory to secure their promotion to the top-flight. Alternatively, if QPR lost, Leicester City’s promotion would be assured, as it would guarantee their finish within the top two spots in the Championship.
Leicester City’s promotion was confirmed when Leeds United suffered a 4-0 defeat. However, the Foxes still need to win one more game to secure the Championship title.
