Nigeria secures promotion to Davis Cup World Group II after victory over Ghana

Nigeria has officially clinched promotion to Davis Cup World Group II after a decisive victory over Ghana in the first two rubbers of the ongoing Group III Africa Qualifier event.

The Nigerian duo, Christopher Bulus and Michael Emmanuel, delivered strong performances to defeat the Ghanaian pair of Abraham Asaba and Isaac Nortey. Both matches ended with identical scorelines, reflecting Nigeria’s dominance.

Bulus secured the first win with a 6-3, 6-2 victory, followed by Emmanuel, who mirrored the result with another 6-3, 6-2 win in the second rubber. These victories ensured Nigeria’s promotion to World Group II even before the third rubber was contested.

The five-day competition, which concluded on Saturday, 20 July 2024, highlighted Nigeria’s tennis prowess. Despite the pending result of the third rubber, Nigeria’s promotion was already guaranteed.

From the outcomes, Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire are set to be relegated to Group IV, while the Benin Republic will remain in Africa Group III. Zimbabwe and Namibia will join Nigeria in World Group II after securing their own impressive wins at the event held in Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital.

This promotion marks a significant achievement for Nigerian tennis, reflecting the hard work and dedication of the players and the support staff involved.
