Nigeria U-17 Women’s team to face Central African Republic in FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier

Nigeria U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, will kick off its journey to secure a spot in the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with a clash against Central African Republic.

The encounter, marked as the second-round first-leg fixture, will take place in the Cameroonian city of Douala.

Central African Republic, lacking an approved international stadium in its capital, Bangui, or any other city within its borders, has designated Douala as its home ground.

The U-17 clash is scheduled for the Stade de la Reunification de Douala on Sunday, 4th February, 2024, with kickoff at 3pm local-time in Cameroon.

The Flamingos won the bronze medal at the last FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup held in India. Their impressive performance included a dramatic penalty shootout triumph over Germany in the 3rd place playoff.

Nigeria have a remarkable record of participating in almost every edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals except the 2018 tournament in Uruguay. Looking ahead to the 2024 World Cup, the Dominican Republic is gearing up to host its first-ever FIFA tournament.

For the first-leg showdown, the Confederation of African Football has appointed Tunisian official Emna Ajbouni as the referee, with compatriots Khouloud Amri, Ameni Hammemi, and Asma Chouchane serving as assistant referees and the fourth official. The commissioner for this encounter will be Eugenie Mbainaye from Chad.

The return leg in Nigeria, scheduled for the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, on Saturday, 10th February 2024, will see Moroccan official Zakia El Grini as the referee. Assistant referees will be Ihsane Ennouajeli Nouajli, Karima Khadiri, and Sabah Sadir, with Naa Odofoley Nortey from Ghana serving as the commissioner.
