Nigerian international released by Leicester City

Foxes release Ashleigh Plumptre following contract expiry

Leicester City have decided to release Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre at the end of the 2022-23 season following the expiry of her contract at the club.

Plumptre, 25, has been at Leicester City since 2019 as a professional player, having trained with the side from the age of seven until she was 15. The central defender made 23 appearances for the Foxes as they survived relegation from the WSL in 2022-23.

The Super Falcons star, who is currently at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, played 79 times for the club across four seasons, helping them with the Barclays Women’s Championship title in 2021 which earned them a promotion to the WSL.

Plumptre represents Nigeria, having debuted in 2022, and will be hopeful of enjoying a brilliant World Cup to help her find a new team this summer.
