Nigerian striker Anthony Okpotu joins Al-Adalah after leaving Al-Ain
Saudi First Division club Al-Adalah have signed former Lobi Stars striker Anthony Okpotu on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Al-Ain.
The 30-year-old striker agreed to terms with Al-Adalah after Al-Ain narrowly missed out on promotion to the Saudi Pro League. In contrast, Al-Adalah finished fifth, without a realistic chance of promotion.
Despite Al-Ain’s overall disappointing season, Okpotu enjoyed significant individual success, scoring 17 goals and providing one assist in 27 games, making him the third-highest scorer in the league.
Okpotu announced his departure from Al-Ain on his official Instagram page, expressing gratitude to the club and reminiscing about the memories they created over the past year.
Okpotu, who won the NPFL Golden Boot in the 2016/2017 season after returning to Nigeria from a stint with Al-Ittihad, now aims to help Al-Adalah achieve promotion.
The 30-year-old brings a wealth of experience, having played for clubs in various countries, including Difaâ Hassani El Jadidi (Morocco), Klubi I Futbollit Laçi (Albania), US Monastir (Morocco), Qatar SC, and El Masry (Egypt), before joining Al-Ain in Saudi Arabia last year.
Notably, Anthony Okpotu holds the distinction of being the only player in the Nigeria Professional Football League to have scored three hat-tricks in a single season.
