Nigerians Abroad: Chukwueze, Dessers, and Aribo shine in European Competitions

Samuel Chukwueze, and Cyriel Dessers grabbed the headline as Nigerian players shined during the midweek European competitions.

The Nigerian Rangers trio of Joe Aribo, Calvin Bassey, and Leon Balogun progressed into the last four while the likes of Collin Yira Sor, Peter Olayinka, and Victor Okoh Boniface were knocked out.

Samuel Chukwueze v Bayern Munich

On Wednesday during the UEFA Champions League game between Villarreal and Bayern Munich, Samuel Chukwueze was the hero as he came off the bench to score the goal that earned his side a place in the last four.

Villarreal had secured a 1-0 first-leg win against Bayern Munich in Spain, they had a job to do, avoiding defeat in Germany – against all odds they pulled this.

Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze came from the bench to score the equalizing goal after Robert Lewandowski had put the home team in front.

In the end, Villarreal secured an aggregate 2-1 win against Bayern Munich to set up a semifinal clash against Liverpool.

Cyriel Dessers v Slavia Praha

Cyriel Dessers scored a brace in the UEFA Conference League game between his side Feyenoord and Collin Sor, Peter Olayinka’s Slavia Praha.

The redhot Nigerian striker scored twice as Feyenoord 3-1 away win for an aggregated 6-4 win for a place in the last four where they will face Olympique Marseille.

Dessers has 8 goals, 2 assists in 10 Europa Conference League games.

Joe Aribo v Braga

Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo was instrumental in the Rangers overturning their 1-0 first-leg loss with their 3-1 second-leg win in a Europa League game on Thursday.

Joe Aribo assisted two of the three goals scored by the Rangers who secured an extra win against their opponents from Portugal.

The Rangers will now play RB Leipzig in the semifinal.

Joe Aribo has three assists in 14 Europa League games.

Ademola Lookman and Kelechi Iheanacho were also involved for Leicester City who secured a semifinal berth against Roma.
