Nigeria’s best-rated in UCL group stages Innocent Bonke replaces injured Wilfred Ndidi for Ghana ties

Innocent Bonke has been called up to replace injured Wilfred Ndidi as Nigeria prepare for two-leg World Cup Qualifier games against Ghana.

The news of Wilfred Ndidi’s injury broke out on Thursday after the regular Super Eagles midfielder player injured his knee in a club assignment.

Wilfred Ndidi in an attempt to stop an opposing play from playing a ball went for a challenge that got him injured and ruled out of the Ghana games.

And the Leicester City midfielder has now been replaced with Lorient midfielder Innocent Bonke.

Innocent Bonke who was Nigeria’s best-rated player at the group stages of the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League has been called up in place of Wilfred Ndidi.

He was rated 143 amongst all the players who participated in the group stages game, Zaidu Sanusi and Samuel Chukueze completed the Nigerian ratings.

Innocent Bonke played in the 2021/22 Champions League group stages with Malmo in the same group as Chelsea, Zenit, and Juventus.

The 26-year-old who recently joined Lorient from Malmo has been involved in all the league games for the Ligue 1 side since joining in January.

Innocent Bonke is not Wilfred Ndidi but he could bring to the team something close to what the Leicester City midfielder could do.

He is a good tackler of the ball, good at game progression, interception, and runs from the start of any game until the end.

Ghana will host Nigeria in the first leg of the 2022 World Cup Playoffs on 25th March 2022 with the return leg in Nigeria to follow four days later.

The aggregate winner of both legs will qualify for the 2022 World Cup In Qatar later in the year.
