NNL Super 8: Bright start for Kano Pillars, Katsina United and Sporting Lagos
The 2022/2023 Nigeria National League Super 8 playoffs got underway in Asaba today. Kano Pillars FC, Katsina United and Sporting Lagos FC enjoyed bright starts with opening day wins.

Kano Pillars FC 1-0 EFCC FC
Kano Pillars FC faced EFCC FC in the opening game of the NNL Super 8 playoffs at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Sunday July 2.
William Sunday scored the match winner to hand Pillars FC maximum points and the perfect foundation for their promotion ambition.
DMD FC 1-2 Katsina United FC
Immediately after the Kano Pillars FC vs EFCC FC match, the other Northern Conference teams DMD FC of Borno and Katsina United FC took to the turf for the second game of the day.
It took Katsina United FC new signing Victor Mboama ten minutes to fire his team 2-0 up.
The Coach Usman Abdullah tutored Katsina United FC maintained the lead until the 88th minute when DMD FC pulled one back from the spot.
A frantic closing minutes followed but Katsina United FC held on for a 2-1 win to lead the Northern Conference after Matchday One in Asaba.
Sporting Lagos 1-0 FC ONE Rockets
Sporting Lagos FC and FC ONE Rocket opened the Southern Conference section of the Nigeria National League Super 8 playoffs by 2pm.
The keenly contested showdown looked headed for a stalemate until Sporting Lagos FC struck the winner in the 88th minute to seal a 1-0 win.
Abeokuta Stormers 0-0 Heartland FC
The final game of matchday one pitched Abeokuta Stormers of Abeokuta vs Heartland FC of Owerri.
Whereas Heartland FC were tipped as favourites to win this game, there was no breakthrough for either side at the expiration of regulation time.
So it ended Abeokuta Stormers 0-0 Heartland FC.
