NPFL Match Official Confirmed Dead in Lagos

The Referee Assessor for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match between Ikorodu City FC and Barau FC, Rachael Enagbare from Edo State, has died.
It was learnt that she complained of feeling unwell on Saturday and was taken to hospital after the pre-match meeting on Sunday morning, but sadly passed away in the afternoon.
Reacting to the news, NPFL Chairman, Otunba Gbenga Elegbeleye, described her death as a great loss to the league and the entire football community in Nigeria.
“The NPFL family is deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of the former referee who had been serving as a referee assessor with us. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her immediate family and to the Nigeria Referees Association (NRA),” Elegbeleye said.
He added that the league will work with the Lagos State Football Association, the Lagos Referees Council and the NRA to ensure that her body is handed over to her family.
